This was borrowed from The Real NCIS Visit their website for more information. Mission: The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) - the Department of the Navy's (DoN's) primary law enforcement arm - is in the midst of a transformation. No longer is the traditional reactive law enforcement model adequate given the complex and increasingly blurred terrorist, intelligence, and criminal threats to our Navy and Marine Corps. To counter the evolving threats, NCIS has implemented a new, proactive strategic plan which emphasizes the following priorities:
People: NCIS has approximately 2300 employees, 50% of whom are civilian special agents, located in over 140 locations around the globe (including those aboard ships and carriers). Presently, the agency is headed by a civilian special agent David L. Brant. History: NCIS grew out of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) during World War I. The agency has seen many organizational changes throughout its history. |
